Syrena (gr. Σειρήν Seirḗn, l.mn. Σειρῆνες Seirē̂nes, łac. Siren, l.mn. /wikipedia/

The mermaid (Greek: Σειρήν Seirḗn, plural: Σειρῆνες Seirē̂nes, Latin: Siren, pl: Sirenes) - in Greek mythology they are dangerous and cunning femme fatale creatures, depicted as half woman, half bird. Later, as in Roman mythology, the sea nymph is pictured as a fish with the head of a woman or as a half woman, half fish. These two different images of sirens are sometimes confusing, although they are the same. In some languages (Polish, French, Spanish, Portuguese or Romanian) and translations, "mermaid" means a being associated with water. In other languages, it usually means half woman, half bird, e.g. Russian сирена (see also syrin), English siren, Swedish sirene - in contrast to beings associated with water: Russian rusałka, English mermaid or seam. sjöjungfru. /wikipedia/

Kraken – legendarny stwór morski. Prawdopodobnie źródłem legend są spotkania z kałamarnicą olbrzymią. Pisał o nim Pliniusz Starszy – potwór miał blokować Cieśninę Gibraltarską, nie przepuszczając przepływających tamtędy okrętów. W epoce nowożytnej pierwszy opisał to monstrum Erik Pontoppidan w swoim dziele Natural history of Norway (1752). /wikipedia/

Kraken - a legendary sea creature. Meetings with a giant squid are probably the source of legends. Pliny the Elder wrote about it - the monster was supposed to block the Strait of Gibraltar, preventing ships passing there. In the modern era, this monster was first described by Erik Pontoppidan in his Natural history of Norway (1752). According to sailing stories, Kraken were often taken for islands. When the sailors went ashore, they woke the monster, which was submerging itself, dragging the crew and the ship into the water. In legends, Kraken is also known as Triangul. Neptune ruled him, but listens to the person, whom she sees as soon as she wakes up. He falls asleep for a hundred years and then attacks ships for another hundred years. /wikipedia/
